How to qualify for men's basketball at the Paris 2024 Olympics

Along with hosts France, 11 other teams will participate in the men's basketball tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Basketball has been a part of the Olympic program since the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The United States has without a doubt been the most successful team in men's basketball at the Olympics having won 16 out of 19 tournaments (did not win in 1972, 1980 and 2004), winning seven consecutive tournaments between 1936 and 1968, and have only failed to win a medal on one occasion (1980).
The format for the men's basketball tournament has remained largely unchanged since the 1976 Montreal Olympics and the Paris 2024 tournament is again set to feature 12 teams. The 12 teams will be split into 2 groups of 6 with the top 4 teams in each group advancing to the quarterfinals. The preliminary round games are scheduled to be held at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, while the knockout rounds will take place at the Arena Bercy in Paris.
Qualified teams
With hosts France receiving automatic qualification, the remaining 11 teams in the Paris 2024 men's basketball tournament will qualify through one of two paths: the 2023 Basketball World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.
The top ranked team or the top two ranked teams from each continent in the final standings of the 2023 Basketball World Cup will qualify for Paris 2024 (total 7 teams). Out of the remaining teams at the 2023 Basketball World Cup, the next top 19 teams in the final standings and a further five teams from regional per-qualifying tournaments (total 24 teams) will contest one of four Olympic qualifying tournaments for the final four places for Paris 2024.

2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup
25 August - 10 September 2023. The top one or two teams from each continent at the 2023 Basketball World Cup will qualify for Paris 2024. If France is ranked as one of the two top ranked teams from Europe in this tournament, then the quota place will be reallocated to the next best ranked team from Europe.

2024 FIBA Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments
The winner of each of the four separate qualifying tournaments qualify for Paris 2024.
A total of 24 teams will participate in the 2024 Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. The teams will be split into four sperate tournaments with 6 teams each. The winner of each tournament will qualify for Paris 2024. The 24 team field will be made up of 19 teams from the 2023 Basketball World Cup and 5 teams from regional Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. The regional tournaments consist of teams which failed to qualify for the 2023 Basketball World Cup.
A total of 19 teams from the 2023 Basketball World Cup not already qualified for Paris 2024 will participate in one of four Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. The 19 teams will be selected from the final standings of the 2023 Basketball World Cup in the following order:
The highest placed team from Africa not already qualified for Paris 2024
The highest placed team from Americas not already qualified for Paris 2024
The highest placed team from Asia not already qualified for Paris 2024
The 16 highest placed teams not already qualified for Paris 2024 or the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments
Note that as many as 5 of the lowest placed teams at the 2023 Basketball World Cup will not be able to participate in the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments nor the regional Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournaments,
12-20 August 2023. The winner of the African regional pre-Olympic qualifying tournament will qualify for the 2024 FIBA Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.

12-20 August 2023. The winner of the Americas regional pre-Olympic qualifying tournament will qualify for the 2024 FIBA Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.
12-20 August 2023. The qualified teams for the European regional pre-Olympic qualifying tournament will be split into two groups with the winner of each group qualifying for the 2024 FIBA Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.
