As we gear up for the Paris 2024 Olympics, rugby sevens teams from around the world are on a journey to qualify for the Olympic tournament and compete for the coveted gold medal.
The competition for Olympic qualification in rugby sevens is intense, with only 12 spots available for the Olympics. Teams from around the world will battle it out to represent their countries and compete for the coveted gold medal. Qualifying for the Olympics in rugby sevens is a challenging and multi-stage process. The journey to Olympic qualification consists of several pathways, including regional tournaments, the World Rugby Sevens Series, and the final Olympic qualification tournament.
Qualified teams
The competition will be fierce as only 12 men's and 12 women's teams will ultimately make it to Paris, with the host country, France, automatically receiving a spot in each event.

2022-23 World Rugby Sevens Series
The World Rugby Sevens Series is a global rugby sevens competition consisting of eleven men's tournaments and seven women's tournaments held across the world. Teams earn points based on their performance at each tournament, with the top four teams for each gender after the final tournament qualifying for the Olympics.

Regional Tournaments
The top rugby sevens teams from each regional tournaments will qualify for the Olympics. The regions are Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, and South America (6 teams total per gender).
2024 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament
The final pathway for teams to qualify for the Olympics is through the Olympic Qualification Tournament. Twelve teams will compete in the tournament, with the top team in each gender earning a spot at the Olympics. The teams that will participate in the tournament will be determined based on their performance in the regional tournaments and the World Rugby Sevens Series.
Qualifying tournaments
September 2023. The winner of the men's and women's 2023 Africa Sevens will qualify for Paris 2024.
November 2023. The winner of the men's and women's 2023 Asia Rugby Sevens Olympic Qualifying Tournament will qualify for Paris 2024.
25-27 June 2023. The winner of the men's and women's rugby sevens tournaments at the 2023 European Games will qualify for Paris 2024. As both men's and women's teams from France have already qualified for Paris 2024 as hosts, they are not eligible to participate in this tournament.

19-20 August 2023. The winner of the men's and women's 2023 RAN Sevens tournaments for North American teams will qualify for Paris 2024. As the United States women's team have already qualified for Paris 2024, the United States is not eligible to participate in the women's tournament.

November 2023. The winner of the men's and women's 2023 Oceania Sevens Championship will qualify for Paris 2024. As teams from Australia and New Zealand have already qualified for the men's and women's tournaments for Paris 2024, they are not eligible to participate in the tournaments for either gender. The Fiji men's team are also not eligible to participate in the men's tournament as they have also qualified for Paris 2024.
17-18 June 2023. The winner of the men's and women's 2023 South American Qualification Tournament will qualify for Paris 2024. As the Argentina men's team have already qualified for Paris 2024, Argentina is not eligible to participate in the men's tournament.

June 2024. The winner of the men's and women's 2024 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament will qualify for Paris 2024. The two highest eligible teams for each gender from each of the regional tournaments not already qualified for Paris 2024 will participate in the 2024 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament.
