From the Global FIBA Rankings to Intense Olympic Qualifying Tournaments: The Journey of Elite 3x3 Basketball Teams as They Aim for a Spot at the Highly-Anticipated Paris 2024 Olympic Games
The upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics will mark the second time that 3x3 basketball is included in the Olympic program, following its debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Similar to the previous edition, Paris 2024 will showcase eight teams in both the men's and women's events. France, as the host nation, will automatically secure a spot, while the remaining seven teams in each event will earn their spots through the World Rankings or by competing in one of three qualifying tournaments.
Qualified teams
With hosts France receiving automatic qualification for both the men's and women's events, the remaining 7 teams in the Paris 2024 in each event will qualify through one of two paths: the FIBA 3x3 World Rankings or one of three Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. The qualification pathways for both men and women are identical.

The top three teams on the FIBA 3x3 World Rankings on the 1st of November 2023 will qualify for Paris 2024.
2024 FIBA Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament 1
The winner the 2024 FIBA Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament 1 will qualify for Paris 2024.
2024 FIBA Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2
The winner the 2024 FIBA Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2 will qualify for Paris 2024.
2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament
The top three teams from the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament will qualify for Paris 2024.
The top three placed teams on the men's and women's FIBA 3x3 World Rankings on the 1st of November 2023 will qualify for Paris 2024. A maximum of two teams per gender from a single region for can qualify through this path.

2024 FIBA Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament 1 (UOQT1)1
A total of eight teams per gender will participate in the UOQT1. The tournament will feature the top 8 teams per gender from the FIBA 3x3 World Rankings amongst countries which did not feature a 5x5 basketball team at Tokyo 2020 or Rio 2016 (irrespective of gender). Teams already qualified for Paris 2024 cannot participate. A maximum of four teams per gender per region may participate in this tournament. The highest placed team for each gender at the UOQT1 will qualify for Paris 2024.

At this stage Hungary, Czech Republic, Austria, Ukraine, Israel and Switzerland are not eligible to participate in this tournament due to the limitation of four teams per region.
2024 FIBA Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2 (UOQT2)1
A total of eight teams per gender will participate in the UOQT2. The eight teams will consist of the highest placed team from each of the four Continental Cups (Africa, Americas, Asia & Oceania, and Europe) not already qualified for Paris 2024. The remaining teams will be filled with the highest ranked teams in the FIBA 3x3 World Rankings not already qualified for Paris 2024. The highest placed team for each gender at the UOQT2 will qualify for Paris 2024.
A total of 16 teams per gender will participate in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. The 16 teams will be selected from the highest ranked teams in the FIBA 3x3 World Rankings not already qualified for Paris 2024. A minimum of 2 teams per gender from each region will be invited to participate in this tournament, up to a maximum of 10 teams per gender per region. The three highest placed teams for each gender at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament will qualify for Paris 2024.
