Discover the Teams, Format, and Contenders for Gold at the 16-Team Paris 2024 Olympics Football Tournament
Football has been a cornerstone of every Summer Olympics, save for the 1932 Los Angeles Games, ever since the men's competition made its debut at the 1900 Paris Olympics. Among the participating nations, Hungary and Great Britain have emerged as the most successful, boasting an impressive three gold medals apiece.
Since the 1980 Moscow Olympics, the men's football tournament at the Games has remained unchanged, with a 16-team tournament format in place. The upcoming Paris 2024 tournament will once again feature 16 teams, divided into four groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the quarterfinals. Hosted in several picturesque French cities, including Bordeaux, Décines-Charpieu, Marseille, Nantes, Nice, Paris, and Saint-Étienne, the matches promise to be a thrilling spectacle.
With hosts France receiving automatic qualification, the 14 of the 15 remaining teams in the Paris 2024 men's football tournament will qualify through regional championships or regional qualifying tournaments. The final, and 16th, team will be decided in a play-off between teams from Asia and Africa.

24 June - 8 July 2023. The top three teams from the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations will qualify directly for Paris 2024 and represent Africa. The 4th placed team will play the AFC–CAF playoffs to decide the final slot at the Olympics.

21 June - 8 July 2023. The top three eligible teams from the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship (in addition to France) will qualify directly for Paris 2024 and represent Europe.

18 June - 3 July 2022. The top two teams from the 2022 CONCACAF U-20 Championship qualified for Paris 2024 and represent North, Central America and Caribbean. Champions the United States and runners-up Dominican Republic qualified for Paris 2024.
